Non-contact Temperature Measurement (134)
Problem: Determine the spatial distribution of the surface temperature of objects using non-contact methods.
Project Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart): Mechanisms through Instruments

PNNL Solution:
- Developed innovative "Active Millimeter-Wave Pyrometer" (which won R&D 100 Award)
- Demonstrated low-cost, video-based molten glass temperature measurement using IR emissions
- Employed IR imaging for near and remote spatial temperature data
Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Thermal emission physics (black body & gray body emission); characterization of optical/IR properties of materials; infrared imaging system application; multi-wavelength measurement & data analysis methods; measurement method development & documentation; laboratory & field measurements.
