Nuclear Radiation Sensors

Range of Pertinent Capabilities and Experience

Capabilities and experience examples cited include (but are not limited to) nuclear radiation and radioactive material sensing technologies and supporting capabilities including:

  • knowledge of key nuclear radiation and radioactive isotopes that are important for critical application requirements,
  • capabilities that enable the development of effective nuclear sensors (e.g., identification of nuclear signatures, selective surface treatments for the capture/detection of target nuclear radiation and isotopes, etc.),
  • capabilities for the development, enhancement and application of specific nuclear sensor system component and method options including sensing devices, sample collection and/or processing devices, data analysis methods, etc.,
  • capabilities that allow the prediction and understanding of nuclear radiation interaction with environmental and structural materials, dispersion in the environment, decay processes and sequences, etc. that are necessary to better define the requirements and application domains for nuclear sensors and sensor systems,
  • capabilities to test, evaluate, validate, and demonstrate nuclear sensors and sensor systems,
  • capabilities to provide effective understanding, interpretation, and dissemination of resulting data, and
  • nuclear sensor and signature capabilities applied to meet specific application requirements.
