PNNL Solution:

  • Determined if laser ranging with a scanned beam provides required data from single viewpoint
  • Computationally combined multiple viewpoint data to provide 3-D area map
  • Adapted system for operation with non-visible laser source

Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Optical system design; optical interactions with materials; algorithm development for spatial data interpretation; software development for data analysis and presentation; fusion of multiple data sets (DOE project); electronics design, fabrication, and integration; commercial equipment adaptation; implementation of acousto-optic modulation for UV laser beam; laser and detector evaluation; signal analysis based on phase detection; mechanical design for instrument packaging; lab test planning and analysis; system design documentation.
