Electronics Testing for Flight Qualification

Problem: Establish space flight qualification performance of electronics developed using commercial-grade components

Project Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart): Circuits & Devices through Integrated Systems

PNNL Solution:

  • Designed/fabricated electronics using commercial-grade components
  • Tested to determine components that survive flight stresses (e.g., vibration, shock, EMI, temperature, vacuum).
  • Delivered instruments for flight using only test-proven components
  • NOTE: Numerous successful US Shuttle & MIR flights have been completed.

Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Radiation detection physics; analog and digital electronics design, fabrication, and testing; software development for controls and data acquisition/analysis; system integration; mechanical system design and integration.
