Adaptable Nuclear Pulse Processor (427)

Problem: Need adaptable, high-speed pulse processor unit to support use with various nuclear radiation detectors.

PNNL Solution:

  • Selected reconfigurable system-on-chip platform that integrates a microprocessor with an FPGA
  • Developed high-speed pulse digitizer that operates at four times the clock frequency
  • Used microprocessor to perform customizable event discrimination

Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Reconfigurable system-on-chip synthesis, hardware/software co-design, low-noise electronics design, high-speed nuclear pulse processing, low-overhead UDP data transfer, lab testing.
