Problem: Need design and control strategies for HVAC systems that minimize airborne hazard risks to building occupants

PNNL Solution:

  • Develop HVAC system design guidelines based on both efficient operation and airborne hazard risk control criteria
  • Provide for efficient routine operation and occupant comfort
  • Ensure early detection of airborne hazards and quick, effective HVAC control response to minimize occupant risks

Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Building dispersion modeling, HVAC system design and operation, HVAC system controls, building infiltration and ventilation mechanisms, immune building strategies and solutions, building codes and standards.
